Wanda Monthey Uses Gift of Life Insurance to Support Mount Vernon’s Future

Wanda Monthey and her husband, Roger

For Wanda Monthey, George Washington’s Mount Vernon is both a vibrant historic landmark and a place to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. That’s why she has made Mount Vernon part of her estate plan with a life insurance beneficiary designation.

Residing in nearby Alexandria, Wanda and her husband, Roger, joined Mount Vernon more than ten years ago. Taking advantage of their proximity, they often visit the historic site.

“We love going to the different events” such as member picnics, the BirthNight Supper and Ball, and author lectures, Wanda says. “It’s also relaxing…seeing the river and the grounds. Keeping a peaceful place like that near the city is just very special.”

Both Wanda and Roger grew up in families that valued history. In fact, Wanda recalls being required to memorize “Paul Revere’s Ride” as a child. But, today, they each appreciate not just the history but the whole welcoming and personal atmosphere at Mount Vernon.

Wanda chose a life insurance beneficiary designation as her planned gift because it is simple, clean, and goes directly to Mount Vernon, she says. She encourages others to make Mount Vernon part of their estate plan to ensure that this historic treasure remains firmly rooted in the national landscape.

“It’s hard to put into words, but it’s such a special place,” Wanda says. “I have total faith in the people at Mount Vernon to use my gift where it will do the most, lasting good.”
